Those Lessons Learned and Relearned

Breaking Free of Regret

Regret Isn’t so Useful

Last week we thanked our younger selves. Looking back can be so complex. So often pain stands out yelling loud and clear while those moments of beauty are swept into oblivion. When we look back, even when we are seeking gratitude, we may find that regret emerges. Here’s the thing about regret, in and of itself it is useless. Really. We can’t change the past and often we are too hard on ourselves about whatever happened but since it was in the past there is no way to resolve it. But the best way to break free of regret is to find the lesson in the pain. No, we can’t change the past. But if we can learn from it we can make different choices in the future.

If you find yourself feeling regret go ahead and look closer at the pain. Look at what you experienced and think about what you might do differently in the future. Once you find the lesson now you have something to be grateful for and with that you might finally be able to close the door on it. While you may not forget it entirely it is really the lesson you want to carry forward not the pain.

May we never stop learning. From our mistakes and our successes. Forever growing forward in gratitude.
