Throwback: It Isn’t about Leading a Charmed Life … Or Is It?

Issue #1 redux

Sometimes I Look for Gratitude and Only Find Worry

Sometimes I fear when people read my gratitude posts they think that it is easy for me because I have such a great life. When that fear emerges I want to tell everyone who will listen my woes about money and business and insecurities and fights. I want them to see that I don’t lead a charmed life.

Maybe I do … Maybe we all do, but we miss it by focusing on the negative. Doing a daily gratitude practice will train you to notice the things big and small that you appreciate.

If you do a daily gratitude practice you learn that every day (even the worst days) there is something to be grateful for. In fact, a lot of the research on gratitude has found that feelings of gratitude surge during times of tragedy, such as in the aftermath of 9/11 or being diagnosed with a terminal illness. [Emmons, Robert. Thanks!: How the New Science of Gratitude Can Make You Happier. Houghton Mifflin Harcourt, 2007.]

The last time someone responded to one of my gratitude posts with a “it must be nice” comment I challenged them to focus on gratitude in their own life … betting they would find so many riches buried in their every day.

What riches will you find in your life?

quote

The essence of life does not consist in the lushness of your possessions, but in the richness of your heart.
~Roy Bennett

What are you grateful for about this beautiful life you have?
