Breaking Out of Fear

Are you judging, complaining, feeling like there is not enough time and not enough money?

Choosing Love or Choosing Fear

Today I was at a strength-based personal transformation training facilitated by Paula Feathers, a Pawnee/Cherokee woman who has dedicated her life to prevention work in New Mexico. She asked two powerful question that gave me so much insight.

What thoughts, feelings and behaviors do you have when you approach something with love?

What thoughts, feelings and behaviors do you have when you approach something with fear?

This was a very helpful exercise especially when I started writing down details. When I approach something with love I am calm, peaceful, energized and worthy. When I approach something with fear I am anxious, shameful, judgmental and tense.

After reflecting on my answers I realized something quite profound. When I am approaching something with fear my feelings and thoughts propel me deeper and deeper into fear. It is hard to get out of it because my fear makes me feel judgmental which makes me feel shame which makes me feel fearful. But when I practice gratitude it breaks the cycle. It immediately changes the approach to one of love.

One more reason to strengthen our gratitude practice. The more we practice gratitude the more accessible it is to us when things are difficult. The more we practice it the more it is on top of our mind. The more we practice it the more we choose love.

quoteEvery choice we make is going to either enhance our spirit or drain the spirit, there is nothing in between. You either walk in the direction of love or in the direction of fear.
~Caroline Myss

When you choose love over fear what gratitude emerges for you?

FORGOTTEN GRATITUDE: Last week I was also grateful for a vegan dessert sister date … Meow Wolf partying and venturing around with a curious mind … A beautiful drive at sunset.
