Solstice Gratitude – In the Dark of Night

On This Darkest Day of the Year

Look inside and find your light; say thank you.

On this darkest day of the year,

Peer into your heart and into your mind; say thank you.

On this darkest day of the year,

Go outside and touch the earth; say thank you.

On this darkest day of the year,

Mourn for all that you have lost this year; say thank you.

On this darkest day of the year,

Look at your shadow, see her and know her; say thank you.

On this darkest day of the year,

Celebrate all the good you have found this year; say thank you.

On this darkest day of the year,

Feel all of your feelings; say thank you.

On this darkest day of the year,

Trust in the sun and trust in your breath; say thank you.

On this darkest day of the year,

Close your eyes and rest; say thank you.

quoteSomeone I loved once gave me a box full of darkness. It took me years to understand that this too was a gift.
~Mary Oliver

In what ways are you grateful for the darkness?

LEARNING: I did the thing from last week about saying thank you instead of sorry. It was so powerful. I was in line at Dollar Tree and my exchange meant that it was a very slow process. After it was done I turned to the next person in line, made eye contact and said, “thank you for your patience”. He said, “no problem”. That makes it sound so obvious but it wasn’t a forgettable obvious interaction. It was a brief but powerful connection. If I would have said sorry instead I probably would have not made eye contact, I would not have stood so tall and proud, I would not have felt connected, I would have felt ashamed and embarrassed. This stuff is really powerful.

FORGOTTEN GRATITUDE: Last week I was also grateful for a wonderful podcast and the reminder that I can just BE grateful, I don’t have to have an object of my gratitude. So very true and inspiring to remember.
