Not Saying Anything Negative About Anybody for Three Days

I caught myself about to talk shit about someone.

If You Can't Say Anything Nice

I started typing out a text that was being empathetic to the person I was texting but it was really judgmental and negative about our mutual friend. Luckily I paused before hitting send and reread it. I realized that this was gossip and I didn't want to be doing that. So I deleted it and replied in a different way. I kept in the empathy and took out the commiserating.

It got me thinking about how easy it is to say negative things about people. But it is just as easy to say positive things. This is exactly what a gratitude practice is all about. We can say negative things about our day or we can say positive things about the very same day.

It's not about ignoring the bad because people can do terrible negative things. It is the fact that there is both in them. In everyone. There is good and there is bad. Just as there is good and bad in our days. We notice it all but what do we decide to speak about or write about?

I've had the following Yoko Ono quote for a long time but I've never actually tried it. Let's try it together. Three days of saying nothing negative about anybody. What would that be like? What would that feel like?

So while there may be plenty negative to say about someone for the next three days let's be very intentional about what we decide to speak of. Want to join me and give this a try? If so, hit reply (it goes straight to my email) and let me know. Haha don't worry, I won't say anything negative about you if you don't.

quoteTry to say nothing negative about anybody for three days, for 45 days, for three months. See what happens to your life.
~Yoko Ono
