Giving Yourself Permission – Try it this week!

Mind Over Thoughts

A miraculous thing happened this weekend. A simple thing that really did feel like a blessing, a gift, magic. And it was all in my head. I have been more stressed than ever dealing with a terrible financial crisis, one that puts many people at risk. I have had trouble sleeping almost every night. I have trouble focusing on anything.

But Friday began two days of wedding festivities and then Sunday, a day celebrating my mom. So on Friday I decided that I was done with work. I wasn’t going to worry or stress or plan. I was just going to let it all go for two and a half days. Then the craziest thing happened; it worked! I let it go, all of it … every last thought.

Saturday morning I woke up normally after a full night of sleep. I could not believe it. I was so grateful, so very happy and overwhelmingly relieved. How did that work? Really? I just decided not to worry, not to think about it and it worked? This is an absolute superpower! One that I plan to use again and again.

I’m sure this sounds very obvious. I mean I am a gratitude specialist. I know the power of perspective and I know how to change my perspective. I know my thoughts change my reality and I can change my thoughts. But now I know it on a deeper level. I know it with every cell of my being. I felt it and still feel it. I want to write this on my heart. Write it on my mind. Write it on my soul. Write it on my clenched jaw and held breath. I can choose to let it go. I can choose to not worry. If only for the nighttime.

What are you grateful to choose not to worry about?

LEARNING: Gratitude is hard sometimes. It really is. It’s OK that sometimes I’m really not fucking feeling it. It’s OK because I know it will pass. It’s OK because I know gratitude will come back like the phases of the moon, like the rising sun, like a passing cloud.

FORGOTTEN GRATITUDE: Last week I was also grateful for not breaking my ankle even though it was pounded on very very hard … Being able to sleep finally, such a fucking relief … My sweet momma, yes I was already grateful for her but still.
