Noticing Is Life

What teacher is life giving you right now?

I Almost Stepped On It On My Way to See Something Else

I escaped to the forest for three days. A little solitude. A lot of family. The entire time I never took one picture but as I was leaving I was drawn in to the bright green leaves of the aspen trees contrasted against their white bark in front of the stormy sky. I grabbed my phone and walked over to capture the aspen scene. I snapped a few photos but it didn't do it justice. As I walked back to my car I noticed these tiny blueish purple flowers standing tall and their buds bending over gracefully. I realized that on my way to the aspens I nearly crushed these delicate flowers.

I believe that life gives us the teachers we need at any given moment. And in this moment it was to crouch down, get closer and notice the small details. Now isn't the time for broad strokes and the big picture. It is the time for humility, fine detail and grace. It is time to notice the smallest moments and the smallest of details. I am very grateful for this lesson. As I drove out of the forest I pulled my car over to appreciate the color of the forest wildflowers I noticed along the way.

What might we miss when we are rushing to reach our goal? Let's slow down, lower ourselves to look closer; let's notice what is begging to be noticed just below our view.
