Shout It From the Sidewalk

When 1 gratitude becomes 1000gratitudes

Obviously all of you are committed to gratitude. You know the importance of practicing gratitude. You are aware of all the good you are surrounded by and all the good you are. But not all of you have a written gratitude practice. Some of you practice gratitude through your thoughts, in meditation, on the mat, in prayer. Some of you move your body with gratitude, breath with gratitude. Some of you say thank you out loud all the time to others, to the universe, to God. Some of you do have a written gratitude practice, like Jerome Jim, my first subscriber and someone who has been practicing gratitude for decades. When I met him about twelve years ago, he had volume after volume of journals filled with his gratitude. But very few of you have a sharing component of your daily gratitude.

I know that sharing our gratitude is not for everyone. For many it is a sacred practice that has even more value because it is kept sacred and private. I respect our differences. When we have conversations about the ways you practice gratitude, you teach me knew ways of enriching my practice. The individuality we bring to our gratitude is beautiful and honoring of the ways that we are individual.

But we are not alone. And the world is hurting in so many ways. People are grieving. People are learning to move forward after everything has fallen apart. People feel lonely. People are afraid they are lost that their light has dimmed. Changes in our worlds can feel unsettling. In times like these we need to see each other being human. It helps us to have compassion for others and for ourselves. It is how we create community. It is how we connect in an authentic way. It is how we create peace. It starts with taking a risk to open our hearts. This is how I change the world. I know that sounds ridiculously grandiose. But it is true. Like our quote today says, “You will change the world just by being a warm, kind-hearted human being.”

So, sharing your gratitude may not be for you. But for one day, make an exception. Open up. Open up. Open up. Open up with love. Open up with gratitude.

1000gratitudes2016This week, on Thursday, we will all open up and collectively share #1000gratitudes. It will start with one. And then another. And then another. You will share as many as you can throughout the day and so will I. We will do this where others can see so that it can spread like wildfire. You can share your gratitude on ourgratitudecollective.com, on facebook, twitter, instagram, pinterest, anywhere you go online. If you make the post public and use the #1000gratitudes tag, it will increase the chance that we will all see it.

Please spread the word. And collectively we will share #1000gratitudes.

quoteYou don’t have to move mountains. Simply fall in love with life. Be a tornado of happiness, gratitude and acceptance. You will change the world just by being a warm, kind-hearted human being.
~Anita Krizzan

What lovely moment would you like to put on the pedestal of gratitude?

LEARNING: LEARNING: I can’t say I have any gratitude practice specific learning … but … I have had some great listen-to-your-body learning. From eating something bad, allergies, dehydration and being very tired, my body has had a lot to say. This has been a week of deadlines and balance between work and self care and play but all along I am so grateful that I have been listening to my body and respecting its needs. Like drinking water and herbal tea instead of coffee. Like going to bed early just because I felt like it. Like skipping practice even though I thought I couldn’t afford to. Everything worked out and without my body, what good am I for all these other things?

FORGOTTEN GRATITUDE: Last week I was also grateful for having the time to have a long conversation with my neighbor in the aisle of the store, her telling me about her love of animals and her upbringing and her father … Letting things go instead of being so rigidly stuck to a plan … Technology returning to functioning on its own accord.
