Grateful Offline

But what does it look like in real life?

We write our gratitude. We may even share that writing with the world through social media. But what does gratitude LOOK like when the emotion is alive? What does it sound like? On Saturday some of us who are connected through gratitude had a gathering in Santa Fe. Many of us were meeting for the first time but we felt like we knew each other through our shared gratitude. But reading someone’s gratitude is infinitely different from experiencing it face to face.

A few of us took the train up together and stopped for a coffee before heading over to the party. I was beaming with gratitude as I drank my coconut milk latte. It is so rare to find these lattes and it is something I miss since I can no longer drink milk. I was smiling fully immersed in the moment. Then one of the others came up and she had the same expression as she smelled and sipped her tea. She shared it with me through her expressions and then she shared it with me by allowing me to smell it and take a sip. It made me realize that there are many different ways that we can share gratitude many of which do not require using words at all.

The last time you saw someone experiencing gratitude, how did you know? What did you learn from their expressions, their body language, their tone of voice?

Nothing replaces being in the same room, face-to-face, breathing the same air and reading and feeling each other’s micro-expressions. Peter Guber

This Week’s Gratitude Question

What face to face interaction are you grateful for?

My Gratitude Experience Last Week

zoomSo many people I know have been experiencing health issues. One was in a severe car accident, another was diagnosed with cancer, and another had a very risky delivery of her newborn. Their physiological and emotional losses have helped me to really look at all I have, body, mind and spirit, and appreciate it before it is gone.

Forgotten Gratitude

extraLast week I was also grateful for the best coconut milk latte I’ve ever had … Water for my parched throat … Going to see live music.

The Gratitude I Shared Last Week

Sun 10/26/2014 I’m grateful for my health and the reminders I have been receiving lately to not take it for granted; healthy body, healthy mind … The chance to not get dressed and lounge around all day while (kind of) working … The deciduous tree I have in my front yard, changing every day.
Sat 10/25/2014 I’m grateful for beautiful foliage views from the train … Rich red ristras early in the season and still fresh … The glow of sunlight filtered by honey … Connecting and getting to know each other deeper … Hot Wheels gratitude … Breakfast cooked with love even though she wasn’t hungry. Thankful to be part of an incredible community : )
Fri 10/24/2014 I’m grateful for reconnecting with Bobroff and the gift of a cute bare-assed occupied Japan bass player figurine … Getting to the dog park just in time … “Better than flowers” an awesome surprise to come home to.
Thu 10/23/2014 I’m grateful for many moments in sync with 15 other musicians … Silk blouses … Productive business meetings over the phone … Having my parents so close that I can just drop by … Doing gross receipts early.
Wed 10/22/2014 I’m grateful for the chill mantra soothing the dogs as I cut their nails … ACV cure … Being at peace today … Squeezing into a chaise made for one … The soft light in my bedroom.
Tue 10/21/2014 Feeling down and I’m grateful that this is out of the ordinary for me … I’m grateful that I am not alone even when I want to be left alone … I’m grateful for holding sweet baby Jammy, fuzzy as a peach.
Mon 10/20/2014 I’m grateful for being silly and light-hearted thanks to the dogs … Fresh air without the stench of hot tar … Morning number one free from facebook.
